Beach tag revenue supports the maintenance and operation of Upper Township beaches, including beach cleaning, trash collection, dune maintenance, public access improvements, lifeguard protection, public access improvements, and other beachfront services. The goal is to keep the beaches clean, safe, accessible, and enjoyable for residents and visitors.

3. Purchase a Physical Seasonal Tag In Person | Available Now

Physical seasonal beach tags may be purchased at the Upper Township Clerk’s Office, 2100 Tuckahoe Road, Petersburg, NJ 08270. Counter hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Phone: (609) 628-2011. Daily and weekly tags will be available exclusively through MyBeachMobile once operational.

Where Beach Tags Are Required

Beach tags apply to paid beaches in Upper Township that front the Atlantic Ocean, Corson’s Inlet, and Whale Beach. Physical tags must be worn visibly, and digital tags must be displayed to an authorized enforcement agent upon request.

Free Beach Access and Exemptions

  • Children under 16 years of age do not require a beach tag.
  • Active-duty members of the United States Armed Forces receive free beach access for themselves and one guest. Valid military identification must be presented when requested.
  • Eligible veterans receive free beach access for themselves and one guest. Appropriate documentation establishing veteran eligibility must be presented.

  • A valid physical or digital beach tag is required for visitors age 16 and older during tag hours.
  • Physical seasonal beach tags may be shared and used by members of a household, guests, or short-term renters associated with the property or purchaser. Digital beach tags purchased through MyBeachMobile are tied to the purchaser’s account and are not transferable.
  • Physical seasonal beach tags are non-replaceable if lost, stolen, damaged, or forgotten. Digital beach tags remain accessible electronically through the purchaser’s MyBeachMobile account once operational and therefore do not require replacement.
  • Obey all orders, directions, whistles, and signals from lifeguards and law enforcement.
  • No smoking, vaping, tobacco, e-cigarettes, cannabis, or cannabis products are permitted on public beaches, dunes, beach approaches, or adjacent public pathways.
  • Do not leave glass, sharp objects, trash, or debris on the beach. Use provided receptacles.
  • Beach fires are prohibited.
  • Motor vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles, horse-drawn vehicles, and horses are prohibited on the beach and approaches, except authorized Township vehicles.
  • Swimming or entering the water after sunset and before sunrise is prohibited unless specifically authorized or in an emergency rescue situation.
  • Inflatable devices are prohibited in ocean waters during May through September except in specifically designated areas.
  • Fishing is prohibited within 250 feet of a lifeguard stand between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • Surfboards, sailboats, catamarans, and similar non-inflatable devices may be used only at designated beaches and during authorized hours. Swimming is prohibited in those designated areas.
